«  – La photo s’est infiltrée dans ta vie. Elle t’a envahi. Regarde ton appartement : ces piles de dossiers relatifs à des expositions, ces photos éparses. Même ton écriture, maintenant, est toute tournée, et aspirée par la photo. Il n’y a que les petites incartades de ton journal intime qui t’en échappent…

- Figure-toi même que depuis quelques temps la photo est devenue un besoin physique. Je trempe dedans pour mon travail, et j’en use aussi pour me délasser. Je rentre chez moi vers sept heures, parfois harassé, autrefois je prenais un livre et je lisais (mais la lecture dans la fatigue plisse davantage mon front et sature mes yeux), je tentais de m’assoupir un peu, la nuque renversée sur mon fauteuil, les pieds sur ma table, en attendant que le téléphone me secoue. Maintenant je prends un livre de photos, et je regarde des photos, cela m’apaise, comme si je rentrais brusquement, par magie, dans un paysage, sans trouble de température, sans insecte, sans agression; sans aucune variation d’aucune sorte. Un équilibre total qui anesthésie mes nerfs. Et cela est aussi vrai pour un portrait. La photo est liée au silence.

- Mais la photo n’est-elle pas aussi la bêtise ?

- Tais-toi. Je compte bien me secouer bientôt, et brutalement, de cette fascination, mais je n’en ai pas encore fini avec elle… »
